The Benefits of Hip Hop Dance

Motor Planning Skills: Children do this by observing what the instructor is doing and then imitating his/her movements. These skills are necessary for being able to organize one’s self in the classroom environment and at one’s desk.

Midline Crossing and Bilateral Integration Skills: These skills are necessary for the development of hand dominance and being able to use both sides of the body together in a coordinated manner e.g. cutting accurately with scissors.

Development of Balance and Co-ordination: Dance incorporates movements on all planes of motion and from all directions, conditioning all muscles and improving balance.

Body Awareness: Children learn awareness of the different parts of their body in relation to moving to music or a beat, helping those who may appear clumsy or awkward in their movements.

Spatial awareness: The children need to plan where they are going to stand in order to not bump or knock their fellow dancers while dancing.
